My brother is thinking of asking his girlfriend of almost 2 years to marry him
this weekend. I’m happy for him, but the problem is my parents. I’ve also been
dating a man for 1.5 years and they know about it, but they don’t want to meet
him. They’re very over-protective, and pretty religious, and I’m the “baby”,
so it seems like they will never be able to let go of the fact that I probably
won’t marry someone of my own religion.
Now, I really love this man, and we’ve discussed marriage as well, and I would
love for him to come to the wedding. Would that be appropriate to bring him??
That way, my parents will have to meet him ahead of time…and maybe get used
to him being around…

I think this sounds like a great opportunity to ‘force’ your parents to meet your boyfriend. But, only bring him if you think it won’t make the situation too awkward.

Thanks #1 - I was thinking the same thing, my brother and sister both want to meet him, so they can meet him first, which will make it easier to bring him home after if they have my back. In fact, my brother isn’t dating a woman who is the same culture as us either (we’re Greek) - and they like her. My older sister also was married to a Greek man before, (and he was an asshole), and they got divorced. So I figured because of that, my parents would be more open to the fact that culture isn’t everything if someone loves you and treats you well… I suppose they just aren’t ready to let go of me just yet…
