I have a girlfriend’s birthday coming up this weekend (I’m a female). Another
friend wants to go out later this week and buy gifts.
The problem is, I have been looking for a job for months and I don’t really
have any money right now. She wants to buy her an expensive gag gift from the
sex store, and some nice jewellery, and it doesn’t seem like she wants to go
halves with me on the gift either (she has a bit of a crush on the birthday
girl).
Should I insist we go halfway on the gifts due to my situation? Or should I
just try to get her a small something on my own and let the secret admirer buy
her own presents??
confession n. A written or oral statement acknowledging guilt, made by one who has been accused or charged with an offense.
It is the confession, not the priest, that gives us absolution.

It's kind of like being in someone's head while they're praying or thinking about things they'd never say outloud.

I would buy a gift myself and leave all the flirty and impressive stuff to the admirer. Just get her something small and cool that says “hey, we’re buddies” without breaking your wallet.

yeah, if she’s truly your friend she will understand. Just get a token gift and then maybe later on if you find a job and want to you can make it up to her. Save your money for your bills, etc. right now.

Thanks guys! I went ahead and did just that. I found a nice makeup set for $20. The other girl is buying her a diamond circle of life necklace, and I believe some things from the sex store as well. I feel kind of bad that I couldn’t get her something more fancy, but I suppose a diamond necklace is a bit over the top to get another female for a 23rd birthday…

I’ve found that people really appreciate small gestures and sentiments. Maybe get her something small that you can afford, and bake her a cake/cupcakes. I would much rather my friends spend time doing something nice for me than buying something out of obligation :)
