I wish I could tell my mother that I am sorry for all the things I have done.
But she is dead. The gap seems unbridgeable.
confession n. A written or oral statement acknowledging guilt, made by one who has been accused or charged with an offense.
It is the confession, not the priest, that gives us absolution.
— Oscar Wilde
It's kind of like being in someone's head while they're praying or thinking about things they'd never say outloud.

I want to do the same with my mother, especially before she passes, but I’m not sure how to do it. It seems strange just to break out with that one day… how do you even do it?
I am so sorry you cannot apologize.

try to write her a letter, a very sincere letter. spill everything out, get it off your chest. I am a mother, I would forgive my child for anything even if he/she didn’t ask for it. I just have that unconditional love thing, I think its a mom thing. She does forgive you, Moms don’t keep lists of wrongs.

You may not believe in this, but praying sometimes helps. If you believe in it, then believe that she will hear you and understand. If you’re not spiritual, then like #2 said, it will get it off your chest and make you feel better. She is right, your mother wouldn’t have held a grudge. Remember the good times and don’t feel guilty….
